Juniper switch not learning mac address

Got a weird problem. Whelton Network Solutions is an IT service provider. Is the Juniper you 'core' device? We run seperate routers for gateways. Further investigation today found that even though the MACs being learnt on all vlans are vmware MACs, they are not sourced from any VMs or kernel ports. They seem to stem from the hosts when on distributed switches both with and without LAG, even hosts with no VMs and even when in maintenance mode.

Turn off the host or change to a vswitch and the problem goes away. We found it does not matter if the port groups are on LAG or normal Uplinks.

We have also changed the distributed port groups load balancing policy to: "Route based on IP HASH" as recommended with no improvement. These are generated in a special way. For more information, see Network health check feature limitations in vSphere 5. After you disable vSphere Distributed Switch Health Check, the generated MAC addresses age out of your physical network environment according to your network policy.

By my knowledge as long as a workstation is connected to a port and it communicates with the network, the "show mac-address-table" command for that port should display the MAC address of that workstation. Am I missing anything here? I am new to Avaya thanks PF. What version of software is the switch running? The initial software release for the Ethernet Routing Switch series was 4. The software you are currently running is really really old However this is not an excuse. I consider it a failure to provide the very basic functions that you need from a switch. Among other things you expect to be able to see what hosts you have connected to what ports. I will try to update the switches.

Are there any restrictions recommendations in regards to stacking and OS consistency across the stack? I am running a mix of and In your case the actual forwarding is working, you have only a problem that not all entrys are shown in the CLI output. If you do an SW update the problem should be fixed.

I actually have the same problem with some Cisco devices that do not show all entrys in their FDB, my expierence is that all vendors have bugs, you will find them in the moment you have to work with the equipment. Thanks Dominic. What model and what OS were these Cisco switches.

I have some experience with Cisco but I never run into such a terrible bug. In my case show macs shows nothing for that port while there are at least two computers connected through that port Here is where this originated from.

I have the following situation: The carrier provided a Mb link, data centre to data centre, carved up in a couple of virtual circuits. Let's simplify and say we have 3xMb and Mb left for spare. The provider believed that these were going to be point to point circuits that is my impression.

Because some servers became unavailable and were unable to reach the gateway we have reverted the changes, which did help. Another issue apparently, because action log should not cause any issues. Now we see that the mac address of the server is known to the router and the access switch, but not on the core switch. We are able to ping the server, though. This means that apparently the server is just known because the packets are being flooded on the core switch.

If you are connected to the access switch and pinging the server connected to same access switch why would that local traffic go to the core switch? Check the messages log file for errors or information relating to this situation. Did you ever resolve this?
